Review of The Rosa Parks Story (2002) by Donna P — 20 Nov 2013
A story about one of the greatest women in black history.
Rosa Parks just wanted equal treatment like all white Americans so when one day she refused to give up her seat on a bus to work for a white man she was arrested for it.
But in the process she inspired many followers to follow along in her bravery and civil rights activism.
Angela Bassett is extraordinary in the lead role and sells it as Rosa for her courage, determination, dignity, and leadership.
The filmmakers don't skim around anything here; it feels very authentic and detailed documenting the events of Rosa's biography.
Even her husband Raymond is given some much needed depth.
Plus it also touches upon some semblance of black manhood; the body of a mistreated black may be weak but the soul is strong and it is a terrible thing being treated as less than a man/human being.
Rosa Parks will forever be remembered not just for her disobedience but the big turnaround for many oppressed African Americans.
