Review of The Roommate (2011) by Wyland C — 20 Jul 2011
This is one of the films that gives people the reason to say... "They don't make them like they used too". You know what they're right! Even though I surprisingly enjoyed this film it doesn't help the horror genre. College student Sara finds that her new roommate Rebecca has an obsession with her, which quickly turns violent.
What I did like. Well there were a lot of creepy scenes that I was surprised to see. Like if you've seen the trailer there is a shower scene with Aly Michalka character, Tracy. The scene actually creeped me out a bit. When I saw the trailer I kept going your dead, your dead, and your dead. Well it wasn't all the that predictable. I loved Leighton Meester's performance I heard from other people that she wasn't very good, but I thought she was very creepy and a great psycho. The directing was great and the script was decent. Also the ending was pretty suspenseful but short.
What I didn't like. There was a very long build up, and I kept saying to myself it better pay off in the ending. Like I said the ending was suspenseful, and I also said it was short I was hoping for it to be a bit longer, but I still liked it. Also she used a box cutter to kill people, and at one time a character was stabbed once and they died. As I expected there were a cliche moments. Like at the end when a character showed up to help right at the most critical moment. Also there were literally no jump scares which made me mad because the score probably be a 70% if there were some good ones. Also in the beginning it seemed like she became friends with everyone so fast and fell in love so fast.
Overall the movie was decent surprisingly to me.
