Review of The Room (2003) by John H — 24 Oct 2014
What can I say? By any reasonable standard, this would be the absolute nadir of cinema, a miscalculation of story, characterization, emotion, style, taste, logic and thought. But the end result is just so damn goofy that's it's endearing (especially if it's midnight and the man sitting next to you is in drag as Lisa).
Tommy Wiseau, for all his faults, is an auteur on par with Ed Wood: the end result is distinctively his and his alone. You can't deny he didn't care about this would-be magnum opus - maybe he cared a little too much.
Anyway, it's way more entertaining than tons of more conventionally "good" movies. Or maybe it's the scotchka talking...
