Review of The Room (2003) by Tommy H — 14 Apr 2015
The Room is a fascinating movie and a masterpiece in its own way. It shares its immortality with Plan 9 From Outer Space and Troll 2. The Room is more than just a "so bad it's good" movie.
The way the movie is it's like the aliens from Plan 9 came to Earth, asked the goblins from Troll 2 what humans are and what they act like, then the aliens made a movie. The guy is a professional.
If it's unintentional then I hope Tommy develops some self-awareness and realizes his true calling in absurd comedy. The Room was a no budget movie made entirely by a guy nobody heard of. I shot a movie when I was younger.
Right now there's a few VHS copies sitting in my attic gathering dust for the past ten years. The Room should have shared a similar fate, but because of the eccentric and amateur nature of the film it's become a cult favorite and it's earned its little niche in pop culture.
It's hard to rate a movie like this. I'm giving it one star because it's a terrible movie and I'm being objective, but I'm well aware why someone would give this oddity a five star rating.
