Review of The Room (2003) by Gabe C — 07 Nov 2016
Cult Classic Gold that seems to be encased in a mystery. The more I have read about the background story on filming The Room, and that of the history of Tommy Wiseau, the more I am convinced that this was just a front for a money laundering scheme of some sorts. I think, that somewhere along the way, Tommy Wiseau needed to make a front that would explain to government how he earned so much money, using The Room's revenue as the excuse. If you look on wikipedia, it does not say how much money this movie made, merely what was used to make it. And if you look at the stage quality of this film alone, you can be sure that it did not cost 6mill to make this film. I am very suspicious of the history on this, indeed.
Anyway, this is still a hilariously bad movie, and it wasn't until recently that I discovered that the guy who caught Mark and Lisa kissing or whatever at Johnny's party was supposed to be Peter, the psychiatrist. But the original actor for Peter had to leave the set early because of other plans.... Why didn't they just reshoot the scenes with the new guy, instead of keeping the frames with old Peter in them? I've also always wondered why Lisa could not have maybe done something else with her eyebrows? Every time I watch this god forsaken gem I am distracted by the fact that her eyebrow color does not match her bleached blonde hair. And further she doesn't even look like the type that would ever be in a relationship with Tommy Wiseau. But then again, what type of woman would fit his...interesting persona? Also, now that I think about it, why is Tommy Wiseau wearing his regular attire throughout the movie? It's obvious that he is really just playing himself, and The Room is a story based off of something must have happened to him in real life (except he didn't kill himself but probably thought about it).
