Review of The Room (2003) by Taylor S — 29 Nov 2017
Some people may dismiss this film offhand as just another "bad movie", and while this movie cannot be compared to say, any award-winning movie in terms of acting quality, it can be compared in the immense amount of entertainment value in the form of unintentional comedy.
The worst thing a movie can possibly be is boring. And this movie is certainly NOT boring, as it contains some of the funniest scenes that really can't be replicated in a movie that's TRYING to make members of the audience laugh.
Which is what makes this movie so special, if you watch it from the start as a comedy and not as a movie that you are expected to take seriously. The plot itself isn't really all that interesting or unique, being summed up with "a man who works at a bank, finds out that his wife is cheating on him with his best friend".
But the entertainment value is not found in the drama surrounding the actual plot or its characters, but with the unintentional hilarity of the acting, editing and soundtrack. Couple with that the fact that this film was funded and produced by basically one man (Tommy Wiseou), and that no one involved with the production knows exactly how he acquired the money to do so making this movie a bit of an enigma as well as comedic.
