Review of The Rookie (1990) by Jack Y — 29 Jul 2007
Charlie Sheen did not go on to bigger Oscar-winning fare as most of us thought in the mid-1980s. Instead, he found himself in this slightly unpolished Clint Eastwood starrer. Eastwood is a cop who prefers working alone and yields a gun as often as possible (sounds familiar), teamed up with a rich kid who, unlike Dirty Harrys sidekicks, doesnt get seriously injured or killed off.
Great jazz score and Eastwood actually delivers some great sequences but its nowhere near to being an action classic. Julia a fabulous villain and Bragas scene (yes, that one) was memorable for its oddness among action films, even if it is often cut in TV versions.
