Review of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) by Richard L — 07 Apr 2012
'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' is a 1975 cult classic musical directed by Jim Sharman. It is based off of the stage musical 'The Rocky Horror Show' by Richard O'Brien. When the film first came out, it was a great failure at bringing in audiences, but the film gradually attracted more and more audiences over the years when it was shown at midnight screenings at some movie theaters.
This film is considered to have the longest theatrical run due it running continually at movie theaters since its release. I must say that I did only see this film in a home viewing instead of attending a theatrical showing so that I could truly see the movie itself.
I admit that I rather enjoyed watching this film. The film is a sort of parody of B-movies. It is very easy to see the influence B-movies had on this film. One of the most entertaining and memorable things about the movie, of course, the songs.
The songs by Richard O'Brien are a great entertainment to listen to. The film itself is rather entertaining and humorous. The actors also do very well in their performances. The actor who excels the most in his or her role is, of course, Tim Curry as Dr.
Frank-N-Furter. He is a great joy to watch and listen to, and he pretty much is the role. Throughout the movie, I felt capable of feeling a wide range of emotions from excitement to sadness. Overall, 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' is an highly entertaining and campy musical which proves to be one of my guilty pleasure films.
