Review of The Rocketeer (1991) by Rodney H — 05 May 2008
The perfect comic book movie. Many tote Batman Begins, Spiderman 2 or now Iron Man as the best but I disagree. Nothing has yet to capture the blend of realism, heart, and animation quite like The Rocketeer.
Of course, director Joe Johnson is the one who brought us the visual effects for Star Wars IV, V, and VI and directed Honey I Shrunk The Kids. Editor Arthur Schmidt put together a few movies before this including Back to the Future I, II, and II, Ruthless People and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
He went on to edit a few mediocre movies like The Last of the Mohicans, Forrest Gump, The Birdcage, Contact, Cast Away and PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl. Score it all with James Horner and you've got yourself a perfect comic book movie.
