Review of The Rock (1996) by Per H — 15 May 2012
Big, noisy and incredibly messy, Michael Bay's hectic Alcatraz flick is strictly for action-junkies only. At times, the movie is suspenseful and entertaining, featuring a strong car chase scene and a slick opening sequence, but for the most part, it's vague plotting and shallow characterisation leave much to be desired.
If explosions, shootouts, dramatic music and unappealing close-ups are your sort of thing, you'll probably have a good time. If not, stay well away. 'The Rock' is far from solid and Michael Bay shows a total disregard for viewer intelligence.
