A classic Die Hard situation: a very special place, hostages, villains and heroes to the rescue. Connery and Cage are excellent as unlikely pair, especially in the more humorous scenes, so is Harris as one of the more-dimensional bad guys of the genre.
The rest is 2 hours of non stop action, well filmed, beautifully shot and excellently executed, no matter what people say about Michael Bay movies. Especially the setting of Alcatraz adds a special ingredient to the mix.
The result is one of the highlights of the action genre and deeply satisfying. Especially the very last sequence leaves you with a broad grin on your face.
