Review of The Rock (1996) by Stefan G — 08 Jun 2013
Like many of Hollywood's over the top, frenetic action movies, The Rock has a massive ego, and is way too long for what it is. The plot seems straightforward, but then it becomes a confused mess, to the point that it goes from being an action movie, to a conspiracy flick.
If I wanted a movie about cock-and-bull conspiracy theories, I'd watch the Zeitgeist movie. The character, I feel, try way too hard to be solid, and I think Sean Connery was only hired for the sake of featuring him in the main cast.
The title is badly done, but the special effects are pretty good, as are the action scenes. It's not good, but it's not bad, and it's certainly better than the Transformers movie he would later make.
