Review of The Rock (1996) by Gavin M — 16 Jan 2015
This is without a doubt one of the best action movies of all time, especially for a Michael Bay film. I know Michael Bay is whatever these days with the Transformer movies, but this is one of my ultimate childhood movies.
Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris all turn in awesome performances, especially James Bond himself Sean Connery who is without a doubt one of the best actors that has ever lived. Sean Connery is an icon in my eyes and yes being Scottish also makes it even better for me lol.
But in all seriousness, how can you not love Connery. He's just the man, Really, he is. There will never be another like him and that is why he's such an awesome actor and having him in this movie helps make the movie worth watching.
Nicolas Cage too who I use to love before he went off to just doing really bad movies, also gives a very memorable performance as FBI Specialist Stanley Goodspeed. Or as Connery put it in the movie "Goodspped, Godspeed, Godspell, whatever the fuck your name is.
You didn't go to any anti-terrorism school,,,,so just make sure you don't get us all fuckin' killed!" Sean Connery without a doubt has the best lines in the movie as Mason the British Special Ops who is as lethal as they come who has been held in prison for 30 years because he is believed to have stolen secret files about the U>S> government from the moon landing, to the alien sightings, to even JFK's assassination.
Now that's a man you don't want to fuck with. But Ed Harris who I highly respect as an actor also gives some powerful force in this movie as General Humble who steals nuclear gas rockets that can literally disintegrate your flesh within seconds, destroying all your personal organs and bones in your body which Michael Bay does a good job at demonstrating in the movie.
...and it ain't pretty. But I know I have already mentioned it, but for me it's really Connery and Cage that make the movie for me as I truly believe they were an awesome team in this movie and I love the jokes they both throw at each other in the movie to help ease the fact of how intense this action thriller is.
This is without a doubt one of the best movies of the 1990's and in my opinion one of the best movies ever made as it literally stands the test of time as one of the best action movies ever made in my eye.
