Review of The Robe (1953) by Keenan S — 12 Jan 2014
The Robe is an interesting, slightly schmaltzy, partly flawed, and engaging biblical epic. While the story needs some work and the film can be a little too cheesy, it works quite well due to solid acting, stunning set pieces, great music, and its flair for the dramatic.
It's certainly a hell of a lot better than a lot of other religious-themed films because it is well made and very entertaining for the most part. While it's certainly not the best religious flick I've seen, it's still a great epic for anyone who enjoys watching epics since it comes with the usual stuff that an epic should: a sweeping story, good acting, and plenty more.
