This movie raises a lot of questions about both the american role in the war on terror and the role of foreigners (who may or may not be the actual terrorists). I had to watch this movie for a history class and write an essay about it and edward zwick's the siege as they relate to the war on terror, and this movie in particular touched a nerve with me.

the torture scenes and the storyline are both very emotional and powerful, but the movie also confronts the ambiguity issue of the war on terror - the lines between who are the "good guys" and who are the "bad guys" are very blurred, as the directors reference by using both the testimony of the tipton three (which is also questionable) and the use of actors to recreate that testimony.

I am glad the filmmakers explored both sides and viewpoints of the war on terror in this movie and confronted the issue of truth vs false in the conflict as well as the unlawful treatment of POWs. hopefully other filmmakers will follow in their footsteps so that the war on terror might be understood on a wider scale from both sides of the fence, not just the american point-of-view.
