Review of The Road to El Dorado (2000) by Jl R — 10 Aug 2008
The con men who would become "gods". An okay movie, but I had a hard time suspending my disbelief on any level...even my inner child was saying "Some thing's wrong".
The indigenous people suddenly speaking English...no wait or was it Catalan that sounded like English, without even some "magical" means to bring it about, was hard to swallow; considering that this was first contact. (I know: Kids movie).
I found the musical aspects disruptive to the stream of the movie. Most of the time I found myself asking why is there a song and how is it relevant? I would have been happy without another "silly" song.
The edgy and flirtatious character of Chel, just seemed wrong to me.
The high priest indicating that the chief was not serious about his religion is completely misleading. The indigenous peoples of Central America were deadly serious about their beliefs.
Still, with all its faults, it was still entertaining.
