Review of The Road to El Dorado (2000) by Ryan Z — 30 Sep 2008
I have absolutely no idea why, but I wanted to see this. And when I did, I actually laughed out loud a few times - though that could've been because it was six in the morning. Either way, I really liked it.
Tulio and Miguel are very likable anti-heroes, and they're played by the dynamic Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh, so you know the voices are well done. I've got to say though, for a movie called The Road to El Dorado, the actual road to El Dorado is extremely insignificant.
In fact, its major duration in the movie is the second song and they're there. The songs weren't very good, either. Boring, really. Pretty pointless. The story's pretty simple, but it's a kids' movie and that's expected (also the reason why it's ignorable when everybody - Mayan and Spanish - strangely speaks English).
It's not even important. It's the characters that make this movie great. This could be any situation (within reason) set anywhere, and it would be entertaining to see how they'd get through it.
