It has a jokey irreverence that keeps it from teetering over the edge to absurdity. The DreamWorks team continues to give Disney a run for their money. Good clean fun, that will keep kids (and most adults) absorbed in its shiny cartoon bubble throughout. "The Road to El Dorado" is liberated for goofiness. There are no serious themes lurking about, or uplifting lessons to learn. This is not a landmark in the history of feature animation, but it's bright and has good energy, and the kinds of witty asides that entertain the adults in between the margins of the stuff for the kids. In the studio's quest to compete with Disney in the feature-length animation sweepstakes, it's a worthy entry.

VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theatre, buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own.
