Review of The Road to El Dorado (2000) by Cody T — 24 Mar 2012
While this movie does have a few glaring flaws I feel like the amount of positives out weigh that fact. First and foremost is the fact that it is very well animated which for Dreamworks at the time is no surprise.
The art itself is as bright and vibrant as a story that takes place in the exotic portions of the Americas should be. The sound track by Sir Elton John is fantastic, really upbeat in all the right places and never fails to truly capture the mood of the scene.
Finally and most importantly for a kids movie is the fact that it never loses its sense of fun and wonderment. However with that said the characters that are not Tulio and Miguel tend to fall rather flat and the movie suffers as a whole because of it.
With villains that are villains just to be villains and love interests that are there just because. So while this movie could certainly been improved it still manages to hold its own against all of the other great animated movies of roughly the same time period.
