Review of The Road to El Dorado (2000) by Khrizzel Jayne R — 22 Jan 2013
Lots of witty jokes and intricate details. With a light and easy-going atmosphere throughout, The Road to El Dorado is quite funny. The animators created complex personalities with the animated facial expressions of the main characters (even the horse).
This movie definitely raised a few questions with regards to plot: How were they able to converse with the Mayans when the Mayans speak Mayan (they are not colonized yet) and Tulio and Miguel speak Spanish? Why was Cortes looking for Miguel and Tulio if they are nothing but a nuisance to him and his crew? Also, being a Mayan, how would Chel automatically know about Spain and know that El Dorado's gold has value?
At the end how would the city of El Dorado survive, being completely cut off from the rest of Mexico and its resources? What will our adventurers do when they get back to Mexico, being wanted men and having no gold to pay off the law?
However, if you suspend your disbelief it is a fun and relaxing movie to watch.
