Is it over-the-top? Definitely. Are the characters fleshed out? Not really. Does it always make sense? Not even close.
But is El Dorado a whole lot of fun? You'd better believe it!
The premise is fun, the characters have great chemistry, and the music is exceptional. If you're looking for a fun movie to watch with your kid, this is a pretty solid choice.
