Review of The Road (2011) by Jomari U — 09 May 2012
When a few teens go missing on a old road with a haunted past, a murder mystery is reopened for investigation. While investigating this abandoned road, new brutal stories about the deaths of several people come up bewildering the people as to how all of this happened.
The Road tells an interesting story, but its not that original. While the movie generally stays away from regular horror movie cliche's, it still fails to deliver anything spectacular or worth mentioning. The film is very heavy on its surroundings trying extremely hard to create an eerie setting. When it comes to the set and slow suspense, The Road succeeds. However, this would be the only thing that excels in the film. Everything else is normal and average for a low budget horror movie. This wasn't really a problem, because if you are planning on seeing this then quality isn't that important. All that matters is wether or not the film get's the story across to the audience. In this case, The Road has trouble doing that. The storytelling involved was very slow and poor taking a movie with some potential and ruining it. Overall, The Road is an average low budget horror movie that does not surprise anyone anytime throughout it's entirety.
I did not hate this film and I did not love it either. At times I was bored and other times I was interested. It is safe to say that this movie is average in every category. I don't recommend this film to mainstream viewers but only to horror lovers that want to see a movie on a late saturday night. I highly suggest you wait till the DVD release for this one. I give The Road two out of five stars.
