What I wanted desperately was for this to be faithful to the book -- and it was. Good acting, too, and yet I agree w/ Ebert that there was a certain emotional resonance that was lacking somehow. I liked "Children of Men" very much, too, but it's unfair/inappropriate to use that as a basis of comparison.
Read Cormac McCarthy's novel: It is stunning.
