Review of The River Wild (1994) by Renzo V — 22 Jan 2014
"THE FAMILY VACATION IS OVER".
- 'The River Wild' is a 1994 adventure thriller, starring Meryl Streep (Death Becomes Her),David Strathairn (The Bourne Ultimatum), John C. Reilly(The Aviator), Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park) and the wonderful Kevin Bacon (Friday the 13th). When it watched this movie, it took me back to my childhood as I remember the suspension caused by the criminals and the water. After all these years it's still a spectacular boat ride in an amazing setting. 'The River Wild' is a night of entertainment guaranteed.
Gail Hartman (Streep) organizes a rafting trip to celebrate the birthday of her son Roarke (Mazzello) and to work on the marital problems with her workaholic husband Tom (Strathairn). Leaving daughter Willa with her grandparents , the couple, their son and Maggie the family dog take off. Gail is an experienced rafter and knows the area like the back of her pocket. Along the way they meet Wade (Bacon) and Terry (Reilly), who have been ditched by their guide. Because there are parts of the river that lead to dangerous water, Gail lets the two men join them, much to the disliking of father Tom. He's irritated that Wade develops a bond with his wife and son. Little does the family know that the two men are wanted criminals who use the river to get across the border...
