Review of The Rite (2011) by Zack S — 07 Aug 2011
The Rite really gets more things wrong than it gets right. It tries to be a modern-day Exorcist but fails simply because it's devoid of chills, scares, and suspense. Not to mention, it's very predictable.
I gotta give Anthony Hopkins credit though, he gives it his all. I also enjoyed the performances from O'Donoghue and Alice Braga. Seeing how the rest of the film is really nothing special, it was nice to at least get acting that wasn't cheesy.
Unfortunately, all of it is let down by a disappointing screenplay and a lack of thrills.
