Review of The Rite (2011) by James B — 25 Oct 2011
A decent possession film, though admittedly the plot for much of the film felt quite derivative of The Exorcist-- an experienced priest takes a priest with shaky faith under his wing and has to face a possession.
Refreshingly, the plot took unique turns about two thirds of the way through. The filmography was quite good, the effects convincing, the acting was good across the board, though obviously excellent on the part of Hopkins (I'm convinced he is incapable of acting badly).
My biggest beef with the film is simply in it's lack of scares when it had such great potential. Also, the plot elements surrounding the little boy were never tied up.
