Review of The Rite (2011) by Jason R — 12 Feb 2013
Perhaps it strayed from the formulaic hollywood excorcist horror and did do the typical twist in the climax of the flim, but Hopkins delivered at a Silence of the Lambs level. The direction, cinematography, SLR Camera-like focus effects, performances, soundtrack accompaniment, choice of venues, and overall storytelling through solid scene-work (versus exposition through overuse of monologue re-canting the past) made for an excellent, psychologically tormenting film.
Being raised Christian may have helped the film prey on certain phobias ingrained in my core; regardless, I loved it and completely disagree with "top critics".
