Review of The Rite (1969) by Arvinjay B — 26 Jul 2011
It wasn't bad, wasn't great either. This movie was just "good enough." Anthony Hopkins delivered an excellent performance, but I found the other cast members to be extremely dull. Particularly, Alice Braga, whose purpose in the movie seems to have eluded me.
The movie pace seemed slow, "action scenes" were anti-climatic and the grand finale(?) was mediocre. Then again, I can't think of a single "Excorcism" movie I enjoyed. Compared to "The Last Exorcist" this movie might be a cinematic adventure, but contrasting a movie that doesn't completely suck, "The Rite" was average at best.
An effective time-waster, but not something I would watch again or particularly recommend. For the religious, "The Rite" may seem to be an inspiring movie of faith. For other film watchers; bland, cliche and not over soon enough.
