Review of The Ring Two (2005) by Katy R — 28 Sep 2010
The Ring Two is One of the biggest disappointments in cinematic history. The first movie it was one of the best horror films of all time but this? Some parts of this movie are just downright crappy. The deer scene is the worst part of the movie.
The visual effects of the previous Ring were mainly limited to one instance of a girl crawling out of the television set, combined with some practical effects or trick editing. In this sequel, there are endless shots of water flowing in unnatural directions, people being sucked in and out of televisions, or people polymorphing.
The plot feels like a blur, and I was only able to catch fragments relating to some lost relative of Samara's or how she is able to torment the family in spite of all the conditions being met in the first film for her to leave them be.
Naomi Watts is a good actress. And she isn't the reason this film is so bad. Actually she's the only thing good about it. And that little boy (David Dorfman) is good too in both movies but the horrible story and weird cast makes it hard to focus on these two.
The directors decided to get lazy with this movie I believe, and wanted to get more money off this sequel, which the whole idea of the movie is Samara going around and killing random, weird people. Whereas Thr Ring actually had a plot to it, and it's not just the girl doing random stuff.
While the first Ring able to scares your pants off, you won't probably in the second Ring. The ending is the worst. I'm not sure if it's what they intended, but it seems from the movie that the morale of the story is to kill your son and even yourself to save yourself.
Seems a bit spineless to me.overall this is a Truly Bad sequel!!!
