Review of The Right Stuff (1983) by Nathan H — 03 Mar 2012

Of course anyone interested in the space age will find it interesting, but it should also appeal to anyone who enjoys confident characters accomplishing monumental tasks. Even though you know the story, for the most part, the movie still effectively generates genuine tension, and mostly shies away from melodrama.

This movie does have a few problems, though. For instance, although I appreciate a little levity in most movies, this movie's attempts at humor are a bit heavy handed, and completely wrong for the tone of the movie.

In addition, it wastes too much time on extraneous characters. Yes, Chuck Yeager accomplished many great things, but his failure to make the space program should have been the end of his story.
