Review of The Right Stuff (1983) by Tim S — 09 May 2014
Definitely a solid movie. Great to see the pivotal moments in the history of the American space program. Couple of minor complaints: the dialog was a little trying at times, there were some scenes that didn't belong (not super significant but since the movie is OVER 3 hours long I think it is worth mentioning) and adding onto the length comment, it sorta felt like there were 2 movies here. The Yeager stuff was really interesting but didn't necessarily connect with the space stuff so much. I think they could've separated the two halves out and developed them into two very strong movies.
Anyway, despite those minor issues this movie is still well conceived, and executed, and fascinating throughout. Really helps you to connect with the early pioneers of the 'final frontier.' Absolutely recommended.
