Review of The Revenge of Frankenstein (1958) by Andrew F — 05 Oct 2007
Hammer took an interesting approach to franchising Frankenstein, by focusing more on the mad doctor himself than his creations. So instead of the tragically arrogant scientist seen in most versions, he's now sort of a slippery, scheming villain.
It's creative, but ultimately doesn't work or connect as well as when the screen versions follow the progression of the creature itself. Terence Fisher directs, as usual, and delivers an unexpectedly gruesome, unpleasant film for its time.
Cushing is reliable, as always.
