Review of The Revenant (2015) by Candyva — 27 Jan 2016
It was compelling but not inspiring. Made you appreciate modern conveniences of civilization but I'm not sure if t represents amazing acting by DiCaprio just because his character was torn up so much. There is rage, plenty of agony and pain, but it's not as if he actually endured it.
The best performance is by Tom Hardy who I couldn't tell was playing the role until they ran the credits at the end. I was amazed that this actor could transform himself with a heavy southern accent and acting that truly made you hate him.
I had seen him play a young Patrick Stewart in a Star Trek movie and couldn't believe this was the same person in this movie. Totally believable as a redneck with a southern twang, when in reality he is English with a heavy English accent.
Few actors amaze me like that. Hardy deserves his Oscar nomination and deserves to win, but they'll probably give it to Stallone for sentimental reasons.
