I think I've neever seen a poor Iñárritu-flick, and I have seen most of them. Right now he can barely become any bigger. He's fresh Hollywood air and he delivers time after time.

This time we go back 200 years and follow some hunters out in the woods. They need to look out for enemies, there are many of them so the hunt for food almost comes at second place.

Our man, Hugh Glass, portrayed by DiCaprio, is attacked by a bear. Big time, he is ripped apart and it's a miracle that he breathes. The rest of the crew must return, but three fellas stick with him to give him a chance to come back after a few days of rest. Naturally he is there with the grimmest fella of them all, John Fitzgerald, portrayed by Tom Hardy. Will he help the man, or is he just in it for the money reward?

The plot is cool, the visuals are better. Done in natural colors, lovely, cold shots, it burns into your mind. The pace is tremendous and the 2.5 hours is very fitting. You've had enough when it's done, but until then, you only want more. Great acting by the two leads, also well supported by the rest. I've seen Leo better, but it was about time he got that Academy.

Not much wrong here, but the leads way of being incapable of dying is a bit much too take at times. He splashes around in ice water and gets thrown of cliffs regurarly. He sleeps inside a dead horse too, a trick I bet he probably learned from the Islandic film "Hoss I Ross" by the way. If you can overcome the immortality, you will enjoy the film. It's not like Glass is taking it lightly, there is a lot of shown pain here. Well done Leo.

8.5 out of 10 canteens.
