Iñárittu's next big outing after the masterpiece of Birdman was sure to cause mass excitement for audiences in love with pure cinematic art and fantastic performances. The revenant is a gritty portrayal inspired by the true story of Hugh Glass' struggle to survive. The opening war scene alone made for a truly mesmerizing cinematic experience; one that I has yet to be re-created in my life. The way that the director allowed the audience to see the full scope of the situation with riders and warriors coming at all sides is incredibly genius and the feeling of terror suspense and even fear for your life can be echoed through the choreography and the acting seen on the screen. I would be amiss not to mention the incredible Oscar-worthy performance of Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio as he portrays the darkest and most unfortunate days of this man's life. You can feel the freezing temperatures, the hunger and the pain without the words being directly spoken to you because of how well our actor digs deep into the role. The director, Leo and all of the supporting actors bring together one of the best films of the year and one of the best theatre experiences of all time.

9.5 falling snowflakes/10.
