Review of The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1995) by Jeremy K — 17 Aug 2004
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (1994) Matthew McConaughey, Renee Zellweger, Robert Jacks, Tonie Perensky, Joe Stevens, Lisa Marie Newmyer, John Harrison, Tyler Cone, D: Kim Henkel. Teen city group of prom-goers get stranded in the country and run into Leatherface (now a scaredy-cat transvestite) and family of bizarros.
Writer-director Henkel makes an attempt to bring in high-camp humor and a twist, which seems too pretentious and incomprehensible to pay off or make an impact. Also the cannibalism and chainsaws are subdued, but the grime and sadism make it a chore to sit through.
Marilyn Burns and Jim Siedow from the original give cameos. Filmed in 1993 and then shelved for four years. Aka THE RETURN OF THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. Running Time: 94 minutes and rated R for language, graphic violence and torture, and brief nudity.
