Review of The Return of the Living Dead (1985) by Robin W — 03 Apr 2009
This hilarious zombie classic establishes its comic credentials right away with a title card that says, in all seriousness, that all the events here are based on a true story, and then goes on to say "Night of the Living Dead" was based on a true story, but had its facts changed! Indeed, in this movie, the zombies are intelligent, can speak, move very quickly, and destroying the brain doesn't actually kill them.
This works well both as a horror film and a comedy, and benefits from its fast pace, entertaining characters, and a priceless 80s punk rock soundtrack; some have criticized the ending as being too abrupt, but it is hysterically funny, and, really, it would have been hard to find any other way to close out the story.
Scream queen Linnea Quigley pretty much steals the movie as a punk babe who spends about 90 % of her role in the nude.
