Review of The Return of the Living Dead (1985) by Deborah R — 14 Oct 2009
Great '80s horror-comedy zombie movie which pits zombies against punks. The movie is funny (intentionally) and there is some good comedic acting from James Karen and Thom Mathews as Frank and Freddy who accidentally release the gas which causes the corpses to rise.
When Return of the Living Dead came out it kind of changed zombie movie by making them very comedic and only recently with movies like 28 Days Later and the Dawn of the Dead remake have they become serious again.
The movie feels dated, but probably was intentionally dated because the punks are so over the top that even at the time of the release they would have seemed unrealistic.
