Review of The Return of Jafar (1994) by Chris B — 08 Aug 2011
'The Return of Jafar' is the second part of an eventual trilogy of Aladdin and all his pals. When we last saw Aladdin, he defeated Jafar, saved Agrabah, and got the girl. Inexplicably, Jafar is able to escape and starts to plan his revenge.
Since this was a direct-to-viedo release, they were unable to grab the same calibre vioce talents they had in the first. The main missing being Robin Williams who voiced the Genie. Dan Castellaneta grabs the big blue reigns and does a good enough job.
Castellaneta is best known for being the voice of America's #1 Dad, Homer Simpson. It seemed as soon as 'Jafar' started, it ended. A couple chase and fight scenes, 3 horrible music numbers, and a life lesson or 2 and it was over.
I will say that the original 'Aladdin' is one of Disney's best animated films, so it would have been hard to top even if this movie was good. I think in the realm of other direct-to video Disney releases, this one can at least hold its head high.
