Review of The Return of Captain Invincible (1983) by Stephanie F — 16 May 2006
This movie is about superhero who is forced to give up his powers after being called a communist during the McCarthy era. Years later he is called on by the president of the United States to combat his former nemesis, Mr. Midnight (played by Christopher Lee) who is hatching a plan of destroy New York City (pre- 9/11).
This movie was made in 1982 and also features Alan Arkin (Grosse Point Blank) and Kate Fitzpatrick. The movie is also a musical featuring music by Richard O'Brien who also composed songs for and played in the movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show (as Riff Raff). Philipe Mora (who directed Howling 2 and Howling 3).
This movie for me was enjoyable because it was very funny. My favorite seen is when they were testing Captain Invincible's magnetic powers and it caused everybody to lose their clothing. Another thing I liked was the song Name Your Poison which Christopher Lee sings. The song is so catchy I catch myself singing it at work when I am cleaning the store for closing. Christopher Lee has a great singing voice. I gave this film an 8.
