Review of The Return (2006) by Mel O — 04 Sep 2007
I really enjoyed this movie, although it left me feeling empty at end. First the good things.. the premise of the story was really good and felt thought out. The acting by everyone was realistic and emotionally connected, the dialogue although lacking at times in depth kept the story going at the slow parts. However it could and should have been better, I said above that the story felt thought out which is true however when you get to the end it feels too thought out, it feels too perfect. Now I understand with story telling you want to finish the story, even loop it back to create a tidy film, however the best films are the ones that although are tidy leaves you asking questions at the end, questions that force you to watch the film again. This wasn't like that, it was so neat and the direction on occasion so obvious that there will be no reason to watch it again. Considering the depth of story at times this is a surprise that they couldn't of roughen up the edges.
It's a short film and for a change fits it's length, if your looking for a low level horror film and enjoy Sarah Michelle Gellar's past work then I would recommend this film to you.
