Review of The Return (2006) by Arya S — 10 Jun 2008
This wasn't bad. it's just kinda boring though. it relies too much on the atmosphere which is great, the lack of colours, strange characters, even directing isn't bad, but the story itself is where the problem is.
the material is too thin. you either don't get what is happening (the first half) or you know what it's all about and can almost predict the ending (the second half). even though it only takes 85min, it still feels so long.
slow. and sarah michelle geller, don't get me wrong, I love her, but in this movie, I mean, is she really that short? is there nothing that can be done about it? really? in this film she even seems shorter than usual, her head just peeking up over the bottom of the screen.
well, maybe, (I hope) it was done intentionally. also, I am not sure if dramatic roles are really her thing. just dying one's hair black isn't gonna do it, my dear. she should stick to comedy.
I am glad that it was this film and not grudge 2, it still doesn't make it good, but it is definatelly lesser of the two evils. can't americans make a decent horror film for once? anyone? silly question, let's rather search overseas for something that we could remake.
or I evenhave a better idea, let's make a sequel!!! wake me up when it all ends...
