Review of The Resident (2011) by Alexandros M — 02 May 2011
The primary reason I watched this was because it has one of my all time favourite actors (Lee Pace) and two other actors that I also love (Swank and Morgan). Unfortunately, Lee Pace was only in the movie for about 10 minutes in total (and part of that was just his voice over the phone). So, if you want to see this because you want to see him in a movie, don't bother. Go watch the Fall instead :).
Anyways, back on track. I had hoped that this movie would have a twist or be suspencful. I was hoping that maybe the "bad guy" wouldnt be the obvious one (who was totally hinted at in the trailer and synopsis), maybe they'd keep us guessing to the end. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The identity of the "bad guy" is revealed within the first half hour and then it just gets creepy from that point on. Seriously, Jeffery Dean Morgan - who is so sweet and endearing usually - sucessfully gave me the heebie-jeebies. I was also proud of HIlary Swank for being a realistic character. You know all those movies where you yell at the characters because they are being stupid and just asking to get killed? Well, HIlary didn't do that very often (there were a couple moments of stupidity) for the most part she did what we all would want her to do.
All in all. It was not suspencful, or scary. The acting was good enough, but overall I was rather disappointed. Oh! And as my mom wouldnt stop mentioning during the movie "there were too many scenes in the dark".
What did this movie teach me? When Lee Pace has a bad haircut, his forehead is really big looking.
