Review of The Rescuers Down Under (1990) by Gavin O — 09 Oct 2008
The lackluster perfomance of RDU at the box office convinced Eisner-run Disney to do away with theatrical sequels and stick to the DTV market. The sad thing is that Down Under is not only a thousand times better than any of Disney's DTV films, but also head and shoulders better than the original film.
The newly revitalized post Little Mermaid animation department went wild, the sky literally being the limit as they created shot after mesmerizing shot of the desolately pristine Australian wilderness, and bringing to life animal characters that seem completely real, even if they have the voices of talents like Bob Newheart, Eva Gabor and the late John Candy.
