Review of The Rescuers Down Under (1990) by Erin S — 25 Oct 2008
I have just watched The Rescuers Down Under for the first time in over a decade, and if the waves of happy memories I am re-living are evidence of anything, it is this: this movie kicks just as much ass as it did when I was in diapers.
When I was little, this movie was my second favorite, overshadowed only by the original Land Before Time (which I am desperately trying to find a copy of so I can review it). Everything about this movie is fucking perfect; the intro where the camera races across the australian plains is one of the coolest intros to a movie ever; The animation is some of Disney's best (especially the ridiculous amount of detail that they put into the eagle); and Mcleach and Joanna have got to be some of the most evil villains Disney ever churned out.
Oh yeah, and Mcleach's Truck is easily the SCARIEST thing that was ever in a Disney movie. Even the length of the movie is perfect. There are so many awesome moments here(some of my favorites have always been Wilbur's surgery and when Joanna is trying to eat the eagle eggs), and to tell the truth I don't remember anything about the original Rescuers movie, I was only obsessed with this one as a kid.
When I saw this in the used DVD store I nearly jumped out of my skin with excitment (whoever sold this is a fucking idiot), 'cause I knew at that moment I was gonna rush home, abandon my homework for an hour and watch THIS.
I couldn't be happier I did. On of the most underrated and unheralded Disney movies ever, FIND IT AND WATCH IT!!!!!!!!
