Review of The Rescuers (1977) by Mariann S — 14 Jul 2008
This movie was just alright. Penny was somewhat cute, even if she constantly got carried away with her obsession with Teddy, and I loved all of the animal characters (even the crocodiles), especially Rufus and the bumbling Orville. I don't see why Penny got to be the only human special enough to understand animals, but ehh, whatever.
I thought it was pretty cute that the mice had formed their own little societies and organizations, similar to those of the humans, but on a much smaller scale, of course. The Rescue Aid Society song was also pretty cute.
I liked the fact that the movie was somewhat realistic in that the mice, muskrats, and other small animals really weren't able to do much to help Penny; but on the other hand, the fact that they weren't able to help her (she mostly came up with escape plans and whatnot on her own) kind of defeated the point of the Rescue Aid Society and the movie's plot.
Mr. Snoops was a lame villain, and while Medusa was a pretty creepy character, she wasn't that interesting either. And at times, both of them were somewhat annoying.
I guess the movie was entertaining to watch and did have a happy, audience-pleasing ending though, so it wasn't too bad.
