Review of The Rescuers (1977) by Gregory M — 10 Jan 2012
(4 Stars) The Rescuers is a solid movie from Disney. Even though Bernard (voiced by Bob Newhart) and Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor) are a little on the genteel side (like John Steed and Emma Peel from The Avengers) for a family film, but they are mice with chemistry, thanks mostly to their voice actors.
Probably my favorite part of the movie is the villain, Miss Medusa, who is basically Cruella De Vil with her cartoonishly frail body, her horrific driving skills, her contempt for animals and anything not wealthy, she's abusive to her lackey, and she has a shrill voice.
I liked Cruella De Vil in 101 Dalmatians, so no complaints here other than she's a carbon copy. The artwork is beautiful and there are a few genuinely thrilling parts. There are a few things to complain about here and there, but they're pretty minor.
The Rescuers is fun for all.
