Review of The Reptile (1966) by Scott M — 28 Dec 2007
Excellent mostly forgotten Hammer movie that has a great atmosphere and some fun performances. Noel Willman's amazingly OTT reactions as the father of the titular Reptile truely make the movie, particularly in the classic 'hypnotism' scene when his daughter is playing the sitar - it'd be criminal to spoil that one.
Jacqueline Pearce is also pretty good in a role that doesn't really require much from her, but provides a good contrast to her performance as Blakes' 7 evil Servalan later in her career. It's a lot of fun and the only disappointing factor in the movie is the method of dispatch.
It's like they couldn't think of anything and just ended the movie in the cheapest way they could. An embarassing end to an otherwise original and worthwhile Hammer venture.
