Nothing special, but there's nothing wrong with it either. The stories of the replacement players during the NFL strike are well worth telling, as one of the writers for Football Outsiders detailed, and, while I doubt historical accuracy was high on the list of priorities for the filmmakers, the movie is fun to watch, features all the requirements of an underdog sports movie, including the team dance scene.
Keanu Reeves...well, it's not Little Buddha, but it's not Matrix 1 either, so...Gene Hackman isn't exciting, but the story's so familiar that the acting comes secondary to the story. Really, it's a football version of "Major League" with a strike instead of a conniving owner the driving force behind it all.
Solid sports movie.
