Review of The Replacements (2000) by Richard V — 01 Oct 2010
Should anyone read this review, I'm going (probably) to get heat for this rating. You get the impression this is a flim you're not supposed to like. But I always rate films in context and based on whether I enjoyed them.
And I certainly enjoyed this. As a feel good, comedy film it plays with a great many cliches, but it plays with them well. The entire cast, some of which are in theory bigger than this film ould ever be, commit to just having fun with the roles.
Some of the lines are instantly quotable, it makes you smile, and it therefore does exactly what it wants to do. The greatest most technically or artistically ground breaking piece of cinema? No. A decent, well made, piece of entertainment, yes.
I liked it.
